Surgeon - Trauma examines, diagnoses, and surgically treats critically injured patients. Performs emergency procedures including endotracheal tube intubation, tube thoracostomy, pericardiocentesis, ultrosonographic evaluation, and peritoneal lavage. Being a Surgeon - Trauma reviews patient history and confirms need for surgery. Determines which instruments and method of surgery will be most successful in achieving desired outcome. Additionally, Surgeon - Trauma may provide medical personnel with direction concerning patient care. May provide in-service training as needed to address new technology in health care treatment. Provides charting in compliance with all laws and regulations. Requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Typically reports to the chief of surgery. Requires a license to practice. Summary:
WMC Health’s Section of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery is seeking fellowship trained trauma surgeons with a specialization in trauma surgery and surgical critical care. We are an ACS verified Level 1 regional Trauma Center, and the trauma program is an integral component of a large academic Department of Surgery and quaternary care hospital.
Experience:
Applicants must be board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Surgery in general surgery and/or surgical critical care. Requirements include demonstrated skills in emergency surgery, surgical critical care and, trauma patient care, and a record of teaching and research experience (health services, translational or basic science research). The Trauma Surgeon reports directly to the Chief of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, and the Director of the Department of Surgery. Candidate requirements include an M.D. or D.O. from an accredited school of medicine or osteopathy, as well as the completion of a surgical residency and a surgical critical care fellowship.
