    Position Summary
    The Department of Surgery at The University of North Carolina is seeking applications for a board eligible/board certified full-time academic cardiac surgeon to join our Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. This academic appointment is Open Rank and may be fixed term, tenure/tenure track and/or variable track. Rank and track will be commensurate with the candidate's experience. The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery is among 9 clinical divisions in the Department of Surgery. The Division currently includes 10 faculty members among three sections: adult cardiac surgery, congenital cardiac surgery, and thoracic surgery. The faculty members in the Section of Adult Cardiac Surgery provide a broad array of clinical services in order to provide the highest quality care for the full spectrum of cardiac surgery including adult cardiac surgery, cardiac transplantation and mechanical circulatory support.

    Responsibilities will include surgical management of heart failure, cardiac transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, aortic and coronary artery surgery, surgical and transcatheter management of valvular disease. Other responsibilities will include teaching residents and students and conducting research commensurate with their academic rank. Candidates will be expected to have demonstrated a commitment to the educational mission and an attitude of teamwork and collaboration across a multidisciplinary team.

    Applicants with complementary skills to existing faculty such as academic experience in clinical outcomes, quality and safety, health services, education, ethics, or informatics or clinical expertise in heart failure, transplant, or minimally invasive approaches are strongly encouraged to apply.
    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
    MD, Board Certified or Board Eligible Cardiac Surgeon. A minimum of 5 years experience as an academic surgeon are required.
