Surgical Technologist assists surgeons and other medical professionals before, during, and after surgical procedures. Responsible for ensuring the operating room environment is safe, and that the required equipment is available, sterile, and functioning properly. Being a Surgical Technologist observes the patient's vital signs, checks charts, and provides instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies as needed. Coordinates preparation or disposal of specimens and delivery to laboratory according to procedures. Additionally, Surgical Technologist may assist in patient transport. Requires a high school diploma. Requires CPR Certification. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Surgical Technologist works under moderate supervision. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
•High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
•Graduate of CAAHEP accredited Surgical Technology program required.
•Specific knowledge of surgical procedures within the operating room (OR), in addition to knowledge of surgical procedures, practices and techniques in providing patient care and assisting surgeons in the O.R.
•Minimum of three years of experience as a Surgical Technologist.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES:
•Current BLS certification required.
•Surgical Technologist certification preferred.
