Salary:
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for managing the personnel and processes of GSSI including, but not limited to, overseeing the Buyer/Receiver position as well as planning and negotiating the costs and deliveries of materials, equipment, and supplies from vendors. This position supports a growing business and has responsibility for driving competitive supply strategies. The ideal candidate is a self‐starter, able to work independently with excellent business & financial acumen, proficient working with cross‐functional teams, including demonstrated motivation, influence, and the ability to drive change.
This is a full-time, exempt position.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manages the Buyer/Receiver and their associated responsibilities
- Actively maintains a healthy supplier portfolio, seeks out new supplier relationships, monitors existing vendor relationships, proactively participates in problem resolution, schedules site visits with key suppliers and performs supplier evaluations/reviews with Quality Assurance
- Solicit quotes, negotiates pricing and schedules, specifies and confirms materials for any goods required and monitors deadlines and shipping requirements.
- Prepares all purchase orders via ERP, acquires approvals as needed, reviews invoices and monitors receipts
- Provides oversight for expediting activities, including blanket orders as necessary
- Ensures compliance with policies pertaining to procurement under GSSI’s delegation of authority
- Responsible for ERP part master data pertaining to purchasing information (lead time, EOQ, minmax, replenish levels, lot size, etc.)
- Manages all in‐house inventories, as well as inventory held by suppliers, and any contractual purchase obligations
- Works closely with Production, Engineering, and Quality; Coordinates product returns with QC
- Reports key purchasing metrics and supplier’s performance ratings
Education, Experience, and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics or a technical field preferred
- 7‐years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, with management or supervisory experience (preferred)
- Prior experience utilizing an ERP system is a must and knowledge of the Visual ERP system is a plus
- Proven negotiation skills and cost reduction successes
- Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Broad technical/engineering experience so as to clearly understand required specifications to assess build vs buy alternatives
- Strong communication skills including oral, written and presentation
