    Summary :

    The Manager of Sustainability supports system environmental stewardship programs under the VP of Sustainability and in concert with the system Climate Health Team. Supports the development, implementation, promotion, and monitoring of environmental strategies and goals across Northern Light Health. Manages and coordinates environmental sustainability and resiliency analytics, efforts, and initiatives for the system in support of carbon reduction goals and that lead to the reduction of ecological damage and that promote long term sustainability. Develops, manages, and maintains sustainability policies and procedures in accordance with applicable rules and regulations, administrative directives, and best practices. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. As a system leader and relationship builder, the Manager will work with system and member leaders to enhance relationships which are built on a high degree of trust, effective communication, teamwork, and mutual respect.

    Responsibilities :

    • Develops, monitors, and promotes short- and long-range carbon reduction goals together with system and member leaders.
    • Supports the development of a strategic plan to incorporate environmental sustainability into all aspects of the organization’s current framework.
    • Develop and implement an appropriate mechanism for establishing a baseline and collecting data longitudinally and in alignment with all applicable provisions of the International Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
    • Establish, set targets for, and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify progress on important sustainability metrics for each member hospital and aggregated for the system, ensuring a high degree of transparency and accountability to stakeholders.
    • Analyze results on an ongoing basis to effectively audit progress and identify areas for continual improvement.
    • Collaborate with appropriate departments and workgroups to communicate the organization’s environmental sustainability strategy, initiatives, progress, and achievements with colleagues, clients, stakeholders, and vendors.
    • Establish a strategy and forge or maintain relationships with external stakeholders to expand the organization’s environmental sustainability work beyond the facility’s/system’s traditional boundaries
    • Support the work of the system Climate Health Team, including evolving and adapting the committee and work group structures to support continuous environmental quality improvement and changing organizational and regulatory needs.
    • Mentors, coaches, and educates stakeholders at all levels across the system.
    • Represents NLH with external parties in collaborative and negotiated relationships pertaining to all areas of responsibility.
    • Serves as an expert resource answering inquiries pertaining to standards, best practices, and regulatory issues and requirements across all areas of responsibility.
    • Demonstrated ability to work well with diverse people, excellent human relation skills and customer service skills, with strong follow-up skills and the ability to interpret underlying issues in responses received.

    • Must be self-directed and able to handle prioritization successfully making good decisions in minimal time.
    • Has experience in the application of sustainability standards and reporting protocols, including but not limited to U.N. Sustainable Development Goals, Greenhouse Gas Protocol, ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, and others
    • Has experience in change management and continuous quality improvement
    • Demonstrate courtesy, compassion, patience, and respect. Communicates with all customers in a respectful, positive, and professional manner.
    • Demonstrated ability to maintain poise in stressful situations and de-escalate conflicts.
    • Has strong management skills with an open, constructive, and collaborative approach to working with colleagues
    • Excellent organization skills.
    • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Comfortable navigating local, state, and federal regulations and requirements pertaining to areas of oversight.
    • 3 years minimum, 5 years preferred, of progressive experience in the sustainability field, preferably in healthcare.

    Education

    • Required Bachelor's Degree - Sustainability, Environmental Science, or a related field.
