    Position Title Teacher Education Faculty for the Master in Teaching Program (Adjunct) 2024-2025
    Job Summary
    This is a full-time, 9 month, three-term temporary faculty position starting fall quarter September 2024 and running through spring quarter 2025.

    The Evergreen State College seeks a full-time, visiting/adjunct faculty member for our Master in Teaching program. We seek a visiting faculty with expertise in K-12 teacher preparation and specific expertise in elementary education. We are looking for a faculty member who could teach elementary literacy, childhood development, and/or K-12 visual arts. The person selected for this position must demonstrate: a professional and critical understanding of teacher education; experience and ability to work collaboratively and across disciplines; and use of culturally responsive teaching in teacher education and K-12 educational settings. The successful applicant will teach regularly with an interdisciplinary teacher education team and work in close collaboration with MiT staff. This candidate will be proactive and skilled in building and sustaining mutually beneficial and respectful partnerships with local educators, families and communities, and K-12 district partners.
    Job Expectations
    The MiT program is a full-time coordinated studies program where faculty plan and teach together. This involves extensive collaboration, working across differences, and ensuring that there is continuity in the learning experiences for teacher candidates. We endorse teacher candidates in a variety of areas at the K-12 level.
    Our teaching is centered on teaching for and with joy and justice. We are interested in helping teacher candidates become successful classroom teachers by developing strong skills in critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaborative work. We are particularly interested in approaches to teaching that emphasize diversity, equity, and inclusion, providing opportunities for challenge and growth, and fostering a learning environment of belonging and connection.
    Among other responsibilities, this position could be responsible for:
    • Teaching Elementary Literacy methods and/or Child Development and/or K-12 Visual Arts methods (depending on experience);
    • Supervise teacher candidates in their field experiences and student teaching;
    • Possibly teach in the daytime, evenings, and/or weekends
    • Participate in accreditation data collection
    • Collaboratively plan with other faculty on the teaching team

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Master's degree in education or an education-related field;
    • 3 years' experience providing professional development to practicing teachers and/or teaching or mentoring pre-service teachers;
    • K-12 teaching credential (active or expired);
    • 3 years' experience teaching in a K-12 school setting.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Academic Background
    • Doctoral degree with an emphasis in teacher education;
    • Academic background in Elementary Literacy, Childhood Development; and/or Visual Arts;
    • Demonstrated experience with inclusive, culturally and linguistically responsive instructional strategies;
    • Experience as an instructional coach or specialist in a K-12 school.
