    This position is responsible for the overall management of the sign installation program and other responsibilities that are part of this supervisor role including safety measures, quality assurance, inventory, and fleet while utilizing technology where applicable.  This position is a working supervisor position and will require outdoor work (subject to adverse weather conditions) relating to sign posting, retrievals and maintenance due to employee leave, sick time, or work quantity assignments. The position will supervise a team responsible for the posting, retrieving, and maintenance of signs for Hillsborough County departments including Capital Improvement Projects, countywide messaging, special events, public engagement, and other sign posting request directed by leadership. This position also supports other activities, programs, and events under the Customer Engagement Support division as required.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Determines priorities, schedules, and assigns work for a large team of employees or multiple teams.
    • Implements management decisions through the work of subordinate employees.
    • Supervises and coordinates activities and projects between multiple teams.
    • Assists in resolving operational and administrative problems and provides direction regarding unusual or complex problems.
    • Recommends new policies, procedures and systems to improve team operations.
    • Supervises assigned staff, evaluates performance and recommends corrective action as needed.
    • Assesses staffing needs and assists in the recruitment of staff.
    • Identifies training needs and conducts or supervises on-the-job training sessions for subordinates.
    • Maintains required documentation and completes reports.
    • Initiates and attends meetings as required.
    • May participate in performing the actual work of the unit and substitutes for subordinates as needed.
    • Performs other related duties as required.

    Physical Requirements

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit and talk or hear.
    • Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee on occasion may be required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

    Work Category

    • Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

    Minimum Qualifications Required

    • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; AND
    • 4 years of experience directly related to the position duties; two years of which must have been in a supervisory or lead worker/team leader capacity; OR
    • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above.

    Emergency Management Responsibilities

    In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee’s department, the County’s Office of Emergency Management, or County Administration. Such assignments may be for before, during or after the emergency/disaster.

    1. Maintain the ability to pass the background checks required for the position. These background checks may include but are not limited to:
    • Criminal History Background Check using Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS)
    • Level 1 and Level 2 Background screening (Ch. 435 Florida Statutes)
    • Child Abuse, Abandonment and Neglect Record Check using the State Automated Child Welfare Information System (SACWIS)
    • Sex Offender and Sexual Predator record check using the list maintained by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE)
    1. Possess the necessary job related license(s) or certification(s) that may include possession of a Florida Driver License (Class E) or an applicable Commercial Driver License (CDL)

    Career Progression

    Employees in this classification that acquire the competencies and minimum qualifications for the next tier will be able to apply for promotional opportunities through a competitive selection process. Employees will not automatically be upgraded to the next tier.
