    The Division of Workforce Development at STCC seeks an innovative, collaborative, and proven leader to serve as the Director of Instruction and Assessment. The Director will ensure high quality culturally responsive teaching and learning. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Workforce Development, the Director will lead the implementation of curriculum, assessments, and rigorous standards-based & data driven instruction.

    The Director serves as a key Workforce Development Division leader charged with delivering excellent instructional and assessment services, actively contributing to our institution-wide enrollment, retention and completion efforts as well as our diversity, inclusivity, and equity goals. The Director works comprehensively across the division and all funding streams to facilitate integrated leadership regardless of the audience (participants, Workforce/division staff and instructors; DESE; DHE; MassHire; Federal; STCC full-time faculty; college administrators, etc.)

    REPORTS TO: Assistant Vice President of Workforce Development

    Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Works collaboratively in a diverse, inclusive and student-centered environment, and with current and prospective students and staff of various learning styles, cultures, identities, and life-experiences.
    • Models high expectations for the quality of instruction and ensures accessibility for all students.
    • Ensures that classroom environments are supportive, culturally responsive, welcoming, respectful, trauma-sensitive, gender- and sexuality-inclusive, reflective of the community and students' cultures and identities.
    • Supervises the implementation of approved curricula and high impact practices.
    • Supervises and evaluates instruction & assessment staff.
    • Maintains and actively recruits, hires, and onboards instructors, substitutes, tutors, and other instructional, assessment, and support staff as needed.
    • Delivers constructive feedback to educators that acknowledges effective practice and provides next steps that will impact teaching and learning.
    • Supports staff in the development and achievement of their Educator Growth Plan goals.
    • Identifies resources to support the professional development of staff.
    • Recommends structured opportunities for teachers to observe more experienced and skillful colleagues.
    • Develops protocols and facilitates, team meetings, committees and professional learning communities grounded in a culture of reflective practice informed by data, high expectations, and continuous learning.
    • Designs and executes a multi-year high quality professional development plan in line with strategic goals, key performance indicators, and the continuous improvement plan.
    • Researches educational trends, best instructional and assessment practices, and recommends innovative changes to maintain the relevance of programs and services to meet student and institution needs.
    • Develops testing and evaluation procedures.
    • Provides leadership and training in the use of curriculum and assessment systems.
    • Identifies student assessment tools (e.g. formative, summative, diagnostic, standardized, formal, informal) and tracks growth.
    • Provides leadership in assessing student outcomes and monitoring student progress.
    • Develops and maintains policies and practices for grading, reporting, and promoting.
    • Maintains and utilizes multiple sources of data to evaluate program performance/effectiveness and training materials.
    • Create system-level student intervention and assessment methods.
    • Ensures compliance with college policy and procedures, and applicable state and federal statutes, regulations and policies.
    • Attends industry and community engagement events as needed.
    • Develops and maintains constructive and cooperative working relationships with industry and community partners.
    • Represents the College and department at appropriate state meetings and planning sessions as they relate to assigned areas of responsibility.
    • Assists the Division with meeting strategic goals in support of College priorities including Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, employee engagement/professional development and improving efficiencies, including the embrace of technology in the workplace.
    • Collaborates in the planning and implementation of initiatives that further the Division's strategic goals.
    • Collaborate with the Director of Recruitment, Retention & Transition to track student outcomes, implement support systems, and increase access for all learners.
    • Collaborates with the Director of Operations to monitor costs, review the budget, discuss operational needs, and ensure programs and grants compliance on a weekly basis; and to develop and implement systems and structures to promote effective operations of the Division.
    • Collaborate with the Director of Innovation and Program Development to develop curricula, recommend revisions and additions, and support developing best practices in curriculum development.
    • Collaborate with the Director of Operations and the Director of Innovation & Program Development to identify and pursue funding opportunities.
    • Collaborates within and across divisions to align services and improve the College's ability to serve students with intention and excellence.
    • Collaborates with institutional research, academic affairs, marketing/communications, etc. to review and report out on data, ensuring effective communication of program information and institutional outcomes.
    • Completes special projects and other responsibilities as needed or assigned.

    Job Requirements:
    • Bachelor's Degree; Master's Degree in education, higher education, or closely related field preferred.
    • MA DESE Administrators' license preferred.
    • At least 5 years of relevant experience (instructional leadership, evaluation, workforce development, adult learning, curriculum, management).
    • At least 3 years of supervisory and training experience.
    • Ability to think critically and creatively to solve problems and improve programming, and manage tasks in a timely manner.
    • Knowledge of MA DESE-ACLS program guidelines, performance indicators, College and Career Readiness Standards, standardized assessments, and indicators of program quality.
    • Experience prompting and sustaining community based relationships and collaborative programming.
    • Experience in budget, supervision, student services planning and data management.
    • Ability to develop, carry out, explain, and interpret policy.
    • Knowledge of student information systems and related state and federal regulations. Experience with LACES and Ellucian Student Information Systems preferred.
    • Proficient use of modern office practices, procedures, equipment, computer applications, including advanced knowledge and skilled in using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace applications, and project management tools.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred).
    • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Director of Instruction and Assessment is responsible for supervising and managing the Instructors, Tutors, Substitutes, Lab Assistants, Proctors, and other staff as assigned.

    WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Work is generally performed in an office setting with comfortable environmental conditions. This position is stationary 50% of the time and frequently needs to move about inside the office department, and throughout the campus community, and outside of campus as needed. Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery, i.e. calculator, copier, etc. The person in this position frequently communicates and interacts with employees, faculty and the students in person and/or virtually.


    Additional Information:


    Salary: $80,000 $85,000 annually
    Benefits: Yes, Full time, 37.5 hours per week (Monday-Friday). Position requires evening and/or weekend support services, on and off campus events in the region and Commonwealth, and flexibility to work hours as needed to perform the tasks associated with the position. Occasional travel required on behalf of the College.
