  • Gold Canyon United Methodist Church is dedicated to “Following Jesus and serving others.” This part-time position is responsible for setting up, installing, operating, testing, and troubleshooting audio and video equipment and social media for a growing church with an average weekly attendance of 1200 .     JOB OVERVIEW:

    The Technical Director is the leader of the Technical Ministry team. This position serves our ministries and requires a self-motivated individual capable of developing “the ministry’s vision” without constant oversight.

    The primary purpose of the TD is to lead and develop volunteer teams in mixing, editing, and recording various types of media using professional and creative audio skills. The TD also leads and develops volunteer teams to execute live video and audio for weekend services and special events and assists with purchasing, upgrading, and maintaining audio/video equipment ministry-wide.

    The TD serves in an audio and production leadership role that includes, but is not limited to:

    · Building and leading a team of audio/production volunteers.

    · Monitor volunteer workload and protect them from burnout.

    · Maintain the church’s website and social media.

    The TD helps plan, organize, lead, and implement media technology in worship. This is not only in support of a worship experience but is to be an integral component of the worship experience. This includes but is not limited to:

    · Assist in creating an environment that actively enhances the worship experience.

    · Oversee the implementation of audio/visual aspects for services and events to ensure high quality and limit distractions

    Responsibilities:

    It is the TD’s responsibility to ensure that our church produces the highest-quality audiovisual responses. Above all, the TD's overall mission is to help create an atmosphere conducive to worship and quality communication based on the event's purpose.

    · Audio:

    Train audio technicians (e.g., operating a mixer, setting up mics, performing a sound check correctly, etc.).

    Create a monthly service schedule.

    Safely secure all mobile equipment.

    Conduct a sound check at least 10 minutes before each service begins.

    Organize all mic and monitor cables (before and after services). Place monitors back into position. Organize mic stands.

    · Video:

    Train video technicians (how to operate a camera, lighting, focus, video production)

    Create policy and procedures for video technicians (training, when to arrive at church, etc.)

    Normalize equipment for every service.

    Safely secure all mobile equipment.

    Maintain and service equipment.

    · Website Maintenance:

    Plan, implement, manage, monitor, and upgrade church website.

    Responding to and troubleshooting all website issues.

    Identifying and responding to all website security breaches.

    Ensuring that the website is protected by enabling the appropriate security measures.

    Improving the user experience of the website regularly.

    Collaborating with all staff and management to ensure that the website aligns with ministry and mission strategies and meets the Church’s standards.

    Creating strategies to grow subscriber base and web traffic metrics.

    Ensuring full compliance on the website with all laws and regulations.

    Keeping up to date with industry best practices.

    Qualifications:

    Needed qualifications include providing technical responses to a dynamic worship arts ministry and being up to date with state-of-the-art technical equipment and services. The candidate will also be able to train, teach, and implement audiovisual teams to service all aspects of church life, for example, Sunday services, funerals, weddings, conferences, and concerts. The ability to communicate well, motivate volunteers, and effectively provide or implement spiritual and pastoral care to members of the audiovisual teams is essential. The ideal candidate will be able to cast vision in out-of-the-box, creative ways to integrate and implement audio and media church-wide, improving and enhancing worship and ministry effectiveness.

    Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues

    Strong communication skills, social media marketing and analytics expertise, and the ability to drive customer engagement and website traffic.

    Strong project management skills and the ability to manage a team of volunteers.

    Strong communication and collaboration skills.

    Excellent analytical skills and the ability to use data to make decisions about website design and content

    Understanding of web standards, web accessibility, and browser compatibility

    Strong understanding of website performance optimization

    This person will also be an original thinker who feels called to an audio/visual career/ministry, has exceptional character, and works well with various people (chemistry).

    Fantastic time management skills with the ability to multi-task.

    SCHEDULE & Pay:

    This position will require some evening and weekend work to support various events and functions—heavy at times and lighter at other times. The current schedule includes supporting all worship services, concerts, weddings, and funerals as needed. The TD will also be responsible for working out schedules to ensure that qualified volunteer team members support all venues.

    § Pay: $40,000 per year

    § Hours:

    Part-time; 20 hours per week

    Sundays - 6:30 am – 12:30 pm, 3:00-5:15 pm

    12 hours additional during the week as the church schedule requires
