Technology Research Manager leads research and evaluation of emerging trends in the information technology field to determine their worth to the organization. Designs and oversees staff education on the use of new technology.     Summary:

    The Manager oversees all functions of the BANNER financial aid system, from reviewing and testing updates, to packaging students and balancing federal and state funds. The Manger must know the complex BANNER system in order to accurately build rules to package aid.


    Minimum Qualifications Required:

    Education required to ensure success in this position:
    • Bachelor’s Degree
    Experience required to ensure success in this position:
    • Five years of experience in a Financial Aid Office
    Special skills, knowledge and abilities:
    • Knowledge of Ellucian Banner and Banner Document Management
    • Knowledge of Department of Education software
    • Knowledge of SQL
    • Completion of a number of NASFAA credentials, continue to study and test
    • Ability to analyze FAFSA information and apply federal, state, and institutional policies to award
    • Knowledge of Federal Campus-Based, Federal Pell Grant, and Direct Loan programs
    • Knowledge of Berea College academic, residential, finance, and financial aid policies
    • Strong analytical abilities related to Banner and other computer systems
    • Must be able to attend federal trainings as well as state and regional professional organizations’ conferences
    • Knowledge of Argos reporting tool
    • Knowledge of Glacier Nonresident Alien Tax Compliance System
    License, certification, or registration necessary:
    • Valid Driver’s License for attending off-site training
    Physical requirements:
    • Able to lift 20 pounds
    Environmental conditions:
    • Typical office environment adequately lighted, heated, cooled and ventilated

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

    Ellucian Banner System
    • Set up and test new year systems in Banner, working closely with IS&S on system updates
    • Create new funds as needed in Banner, establishing accurate awarding rules
    • Manage transfer of information between Banner and CampusLogic software
    Department of Education Systems
    • Send and receive Institutional Student Information Report (ISIR) files and corrections EDExpress and EDConnect software
    • Send and receive Pell and Direct Loan files to/from DOE’s Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) system in accordance with federal regulations
    • Transfer student monitoring through the DOE’s NSLDS system
    Packaging Aid
    • Update and oversee packaging of federal, state, and institutional aid, maintaining packaging, tracking, and budget groups, definitions, and rules
    • Repackage awards as needed
    • Oversee production and release of award letters
    • Complete summer packaging
    Administration of Financial Aid
    • Oversee reconciliation of federal, state, and institutional funds
    • Review and eliminate overawards
    • Work with Student Accounts on release of aid funds to students, review aid not disbursed
    • Create annual tax letters (1098-T replacement) for current and former students
    • Award aid for study abroad courses and authorize payment to KIIS programs (winter and summer programs)
    • Manage the international tax database, answer questions on tax treaties in regard to scholarships and grants, and organize an international student tax workshop each year
    • Point person for DACA students
    Departmental Relations
    • Support staff members with daily operations via training or one-on-one sessions
    • Assist the Director in special projects, training, and reports when needed
    • Collaborate with Development Office to award endowed funds per donor criteria, follow reporting guidelines
    • Coordinator with Finance for A-133 audit
    • Communicate relevant information to SFAS and other staff across campus
    • Update SFAS website as needed
    • Assist in reviewing and recommending new software to help make office functions more electronic, user-friendly, and customer service oriented
    • Financial counseling with students and/or parents as needed
    • Manage office surveys of customers

    Other roles/duties will be assigned as necessary to assist the College in the attainment of the goals set forth and the enhancement of a positive, respectful learning environment for all staff, faculty and students.
