Excel Engineering, Inc. is seeking a team-oriented, highly motivated individual for a part-time Relay Test Inspector - IV position. This is for our power utility client in the Twin Cities, MN area. The coverage area would be west of the Twin Cities metro to eastern North and South Dakota. This is an ideal position for a utility retiree.

Primary Responsibilities

• Utility substation testing inspection.
• Quality and safety oversight of system protection testing contractors to ensure adherence to client’s processes, procedures, and standards.

Requirements

• Journeyman classification.
• Four years of applicable Relay electrical construction and/or maintenance experience achieved through completion and certification of a four-year relay apprenticeship program.
• Detailed knowledge and understanding of client’s processes, procedures, and best practices for installing, testing, Inspecting, and documenting high voltage electrical system protection features of power utility substations, including but not limited to CIP change control processes.
• Electrical background to provide the required oversight in the field, to ensure the contractor is delivering.
• Ability to read wiring connection drawings/ schematics, ability to identify the wire identification, and determine how to compare that to the drawings.

Other Desired Skills

• Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint proficiency.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
