Top Actuarial Executive provides leadership, innovation, and oversight to an organization's actuarial function. Develops policies, procedures, and formulas to guide statistical analysis and actuarial research and accurately evaluate the likelihood and financial impact of various risks. Being a Top Actuarial Executive ensures policies and procedures are implemented effectively to ensure regulatory compliance of all financial operations and products. Responsible for the strategic planning and oversight of product development. Additionally, Top Actuarial Executive establishes profitability targets and regularly reviews product rates, premium levels, and rating systems to evaluate effectiveness and measure performance against targets. Reviews and validates financial statements, regulatory filings, and other financial projections before publishing or submitting. Communicates with marketing and other key stakeholders to present rating structures and systems and ensure adequate understanding of products. Applies knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to calculations in life, health, social, and casualty insurance, annuities, and pensions. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require Associate of Society of Actuaries (ASA). May require Fellow of Society of Actuaries (FSA). Typically reports to top management. The Top Actuarial Executive manages a departmental function within a broader corporate function. Develops major goals to support broad functional objectives. Approves policies developed within various sub-functions and departments. To be a Top Actuarial Executive typically requires 8+ years of managerial experience.     Job Summary:

    Responsible for management of the actuarial staff and activities in support of value based contracting. Activities include developing financial models, variance analysis, forecasts and projections, and strategic support in addition to representing departmental interests in cross-departmental strategic workgroups.

    Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Has ownership and accountability for value based contracting analysis, monitoring, reporting, forecast development, performance analysis and related changes/results with recommendations and communications.
    • Performs manual data loads and assisting with automated files and interfaces.
    • Selects, develops, motivates, trains and retains a competent staff to ensure appropriate staffing resources.
    • Develops, maintains and oversees implementation of contract performance models, integrating with contracting, medical management, population health and senior leadership.
    • Coordinates and oversees appropriate reconciliation of data with financial reporting.
    • Develops, maintains and oversees implementation of actual to expected studies and trend analytics. Collaborates with analytic and operational departments on explanation of changes in trend to management.
    • Interfaces with consultants on defining analytic deliverables, incorporates new strategies into workflow. Assists with developing contract strategies, interfacing with finance, medical management and contracting.
    • Develops and maintains actuarial standards and methodologies into departmental processes.
    • Assists with allocation of current staffing resources and identifies and quantifies the need for additional staff.
    • Conducts projects and participates in inter-departmental activities to identify problems and improve work processes and systems.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    EDUCATION

    • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics or Finance
    • Associate in the Society of Actuaries
       

    EXPERIENCE

    • Five years’ health field actuarial experience

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
    • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
    • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
    • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
    • Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
    • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
    • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
    • Rare climbing.
