Top Purchasing Executive leads procurement and purchasing operations and develops strategic plans to provide the materials and services to meet organizational requirements for quality, volume, availability, and pricing. Evaluates and develops strategic supplier relationships, negotiates contracts, and implements systems for monitoring performance, assessing risk, and responding to changes in demand or disruptions in the supply chain. Being a Top Purchasing Executive fosters collaboration with other functions to define current and future inventory requirements and manage inventory levels. Designs processes and systems and utilizes technical tools to analyze data and increase responsiveness to material demands. Additionally, Top Purchasing Executive incorporates auditing processes to ensure procurement and recordkeeping comply with any applicable industry or governmental regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Top Purchasing Executive manages a departmental function within a broader corporate function. Develops major goals to support broad functional objectives. Approves policies developed within various sub-functions and departments.     Summary: This position is responsible for identifying local suppliers and coordinating all activities related to Indirect Procurement and acquisition of goods, services and tooling that support the day-to-day operations at our Farmington, CT location and will require to be on site each day during normal business hours. Examples include office supplies, facility management, IT services, consulting services, and employee training programs. Duties include supplier development, RFQ process execution and purchase following through to delivery as well as escalation of issues.

    Essential Duties of the Job: The essential functions of this job require the person, with or without reasonable accommodations, to perform the following:

    • Utilizing sourcing process, identify market and supplier opportunities to shorten component supply chains.
    • Develop and execute strategies for continuous improvement of total cost of ownership. This includes cost and inventory reduction, delivery performance, and quality improvement.
    • Support and participate with geographic associates to build network participation and expertise.
    • Work with the planning department to design, implement and maintain JIT programs including consignment, VMI, Kanban
    • Help analyze industry trends and evolving technology to proactively identify supply base issues to minimize risk, protect continuity to supply, and exploit emerging opportunities that benefit ebm-papst Global.
    • Review and approve a comprehensive list of suppliers for bid processes developed by analyzing the industry to understand trends and competitive positioning in order to ensure system activation of the best possible supply base.
    • Prepare Purchase Orders
    • Update cost and quote files for assigned purchased goods.
    • Discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel to determine source of issue and initiate corrective action in collaboration with the quality department.
    • Help renegotiate, renew and discontinue supplier contracts. Identify ways to reduce costs.
    • Help foster relationships with suppliers and new possible suppliers
    • Travel as required.
    • Perform all other duties as assigned.

    Recommended Education and/or Experience

    • Associates Degree or higher in Business or a Technical field such as Engineering, Manufacturing or Electronics or equivalent work experience
    • Minimum 2 years related experience.
    • Strong negotiating skills
    • Demonstrated knowledge of total cost of ownership
    • Ability to read CAD drawings
    • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles preferred
    • Entrepreneurial thinking
