  • General Summary

    Plans, coordinates, and directs the quality assurance program designed to ensure continuous production of products consistent with established standards. Works closely with department staff, operations leads and floor staff to ensure quality standards are understood and adhered to. Drives improvements in all Quality related matters, including in-process inspection, first pass yield, vendor quality, internal corrective action, customer returns, and set-up scrap. Fosters a team philosophy and is a change agent. Develops and implements KPIs and metrics which monitor the performance of the Quality System and takes action when targets are missed.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:

    • Implementation and management of the Quality Management System (QMS) and its associated processes, programs, and standards. The purpose of the system is to assist in achieving product conformance, on-time delivery of products, meeting customers quality expectations.
    • Interfaces with customers regarding quality issues.
    • Ensures that external testing and secondary processing sources maintain the appropriate approvals, standards and procedures, providing reliable results and preventing receipt of non-conforming products.
    • Leads the team ensuring product conformance to specifications throughout production process; including incoming raw materials and OSP, in-process WIP, and finished product inspection. Ensures that internal testing standards, procedures, and equipment provide reliable results and prevent shipment of non-conforming products.
    • Has responsibility for managing nonconforming product, including halting of work / stopping shipment. Initiates an evaluation of the nonconforming work, making decisions regarding acceptability of the nonconforming work, working with the customer as necessary, and initiates corrective actions immediately. Ensures all non-conforming parts flowing through the MRB process are dispositioned correctly and in a timely manner.
    • Responsible for implementing and delivering Quality Management System training for all QAF staff.
    • Responsible for the sites compliance with any and all internal and external audits, all industry and customer standards for certifications (such as NADCAP, AS9100), and any third-party requirements. Responsible for addressing all findings, observations, and requests for improvements from these entities through corrective action activity.
    • Manage the quality team responsible for new part launches, ensuring clear specifications, First Article Inspection Reports, and obtaining customer approval on initial shipments.
    • Ensure resources are available to manage customer RMA process.
    • Establishes quality performance metrics and provides management with analyses and appropriate recommendations.
    • Establishes the necessary processes (SOPs) and procedures that generate objective proof of achieving continuous improvement
    • Performs any task required to support customer requirements and/or company goals (ex. Safety Committee Meetings and Monthly Safety Trainings)

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Ability to professionally respond verbally or in writing to complex inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to senior management.
    • Thorough understanding and experience implementing LEAN theories and ability to apply the tools to improve overall site quality.
    • Must be a strong leader of others and possess the skill to motivate the Quality Assurance Team to meet the site standards and continuously improve.
    • Must be able to work across multiple operational departments and drive cooperation and support of the QMS across the entire site.

    Experience and Education

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering or a minimum of six years closely related manufacturing management experience.
    • Five (5) years experience in ISO-related quality assurance systems, including advanced quality systems (AQS).

    Language Skills

    Ability to read, comprehend, analyze and interpret scientific and technical journals, instructions, contracts, correspondence and memos. Ability to write technical correspondence professionally and without error. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees and managers of the organization in a professional manner utilizing proper English. The ability to articulate, interpret and convey technical information.

    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages and to apply concepts of advanced algebra. Ability to apply mathematical skills related to process capabilities (cp, cpk) and to report metric trends by utilizing spreadsheets and databases and creating charts and graphs. Ability to understand and interpret financial reports.

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to apply both common sense and critical thinking and analysis to solve problems and develop corrective actions. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete and abstract variables in complex, non-standard situations.

    Environment:

    • The noise level in the office environment is minimal. The temperature is controlled.
    • The noise level in the production area requires hearing protection to be used in certain areas. The temperature fluctuates and can be both cold and hot.
