Position Overview
The Compliance Specialist is responsible for the complaint review and response procedures for Formal Complaints (AG, BBB, CFPB) across the organization. The Compliance Specialist will own the Formal Complaints review process from initial logging of complaints, investigations (including engaging sellers and other departments as needed), responses to governing entity, and responses to customers. This position can be located at either the Chesapeake Virginia Headquarters or at the Albuquerque New Mexico location.
Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end process of handling Formal Complaints from referring entities (e.g., Attorney General Office, Better Business Bureau, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau). This includes logging complaints received via web portal and email/mail, and ensuring all deadlines are met from logging to responses
- Record/open daily complaints and disputes, and upload all related documents, including attachments
- Conduct investigations and document findings for complaints and disputes, including escalations from sellers or departments
- Prepare draft responses to complaints for submission to the referring entity
- Collaborate with vendor partner teams to ensure customer response packets are accurately prepared and uploaded to AG, BBB, CFPB portals, and provided to consumers as necessary
- Timely upload responses and documents, and ensure accounts are moved to the appropriate worklists once reviews/investigations are complete
- Assist with other projects as needed, including non-Formal complaint reviews and lawsuit/written demand research
- Carry out additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Thorough understanding of Federal and State laws related to the collection industry, including but not limited to the Fair Debt Collections and Practices Act (FDCPA) and Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)
- Strong, time-management, interpersonal skills, and high attention to detail
- Ability to change direction quickly based on prioritization of assignments
- Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong listening comprehension skills
Education/Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)
- Collections experience
- Experience in Complaint Investigation/Responses or Quality Assurance
