Traffic Director leads and directs the traffic department to efficiently and safely move materials and products to designated destinations. Develops and maintains transportation and distribution procedures to maximize delivery efficiency and minimize delivery costs. Being a Traffic Director evaluates and selects appropriate transportation carriers and routes. Resolves delivery issues for both internal and external customers. Additionally, Traffic Director monitors, analyzes, and reviews loss and damage claims and makes recommendations for improved safety. Oversees costs and processes to adhere to budgets. Ensures compliance with all DOT/OSHA guidelines. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Traffic Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Traffic Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. Traffic Control Foreman

  • Responsible for supervising day to day work flow of job sites, new hire training, and safety.

    ACTIVITES/TASKS

    • Ensures assigned crew is following Customer/Client as well as RTC, Inc. safety policies and procedures.
    • Responsible for conducting and documenting safety toolbox meetings on a weekly basis. Pop up safety topics as required.
    • Conducts Stretch and Flex program with assigned crew on a daily basis.
    • Ensures assigned crew is completing work as required.
    • Ensures assigned crew has supplies needed to do scheduled work prior to travel to site.
    • Responsible for programming and ensuring that message boards are ready for job sites and locations.
    • Ensures that all equipment is dropped off/picked up from job locations at the start/completion of job.
    • Reports any customer requests for change to job that involves personnel, report times, cancellations, locations, materials or equipment, etc. immediately to Operations Manager/Superintendent.
    • Completes job service tickets completely and accurately and turns them in daily for accounting purposes via GoCanvas. (Or paper ticket if required by customer) (Or paper ticket for Norfolk office)
    • Assists with root cause analysis, problem resolution, and corrective action when needed and always maintains confidential information.
    • Performs coaching and discipline when applicable with assistance from HR.
    • Responsible for ensuring new hires have received proper work instruction and safety training. Informs Operations Manager/Superintendent/HR about new hire status, training and competency levels via email or GoCanvas.
    • Immediately reports accident/incident and damage to equipment when applicable. Completes Incident Reports accordingly.
    • Reports any and all employee issues to Operations Manager/Superintendent and/or HR Manager in a timely fashion.
    • Ensures cleanliness of assigned company issued vehicles to include trash removal etc.
    • Acts as role model and professional representative of the company.
    • Follows policies and procedures described in RTC, Inc. Employee Handbook.
    • Proficient of all tasks listed in Highway Crewman Job Description.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

    • Excessive periods of sitting, standing walking.
    • Ability to lift up to 55 lbs.
    • Ability to lift repetitively 20 lbs.
    • Will be exposed to excessive heat, cold and road/construction noise.
    • Overtime may be required.

    PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES DESIRED

    • VDOT Intermediate Card
    • Valid Driver's License
    • High School Diploma or GED preferred
    • 3 - 5 years Supervisory experience preferred but not required
    • Knowledge of traffic control process
    • English language, reading writing and speaking skills
    • Creative problem-solving skills
    • Organization and prioritization skills
    • Excellent communication skills for interaction with customers

    SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

    • Follow Richmond Traffic Control Employee Safety Manual at all times.
    • Becomes trainer of Stretch and Flex Exercise Program.
    • Follows VDOT regulations as pertains to job.
    • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as pertaining to job site requirements: eye/face protection, toe protection, hard hats, protective clothing.
    • Ensures crews are also following all safety protocols
    • Attends all site safety meetings.

    Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
