    Job Summary

    The Training Specialist will partner with corporate training manager and on-site operations leaders to develop and implement training program, standards, documentation, and tools for the local manufacturing site. This role is responsible for ensuring site specific training processes are established, improved, followed, and maintained. The systems and processes will include SOP development, operator training, skill gap identification, training plan management, and sustainable documentation updating and retention. This position will report to the corporate training manager.

    This position will have availability for both day and night shifts to support a 24/7 operation.

    Essential Functions

    • Manage the plant’s technical (operator) training program to ensure production standards, quality parameters, safety procedures, employee engagement, and department business-plan goals are met.
    • Through collaboration with management, identifies anticipated training needs based on human resource initiatives, legal and regulatory changes, career development needs, and other factors.
    • Plan, develop, and provide training and staff development programs, using knowledge of the effectiveness of methods such as classroom training, demonstrations, on the job practical training, meetings, conferences, and workshops.
    • Coordinates on-the-job training for new and transferred employees.
    • Coordinate technical training of all employees, in relation to mandatory job skill requirements.
    • Responsible for writing of technical position standard operating procedures (SOPs), job training reports, and/or position specific training.
    • Develops and organizes training manuals, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials.
    • Conduct training effectiveness through post-training analyses.
    • Accurately maintain all training records within the learning management system (LMS).
    • Maintains records of training and development activities, attendance, results of tests and assessments, and retraining requirements.
    • Engage in train-the-trainer courses and deliver training to various levels within the organization.
    • Exemplifies the desired culture and philosophies of the organization.
    • Works effectively as a team member with other members of management and the HR staff.
    • Flexibility with schedule to meet the demands of a 24 x 7 operation.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

    Qualifications

    • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to design training content.
    • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively across multiple departments.
    • Knowledge of food manufacturing processes and equipment, preferably in dairy manufacturing.
    • Team player who wants to support the manufacturing team.
    • Knowledge of learning and management systems and operations training processes.
    • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, attention to detail, and follow-through skills.
    • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
    • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

    Education and/or Experience

    • Proficient computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office products, and the development of training media using media development software.
    • Experience in technical writing, SOPs, and work instructions.
    • Preferred Associate’s Degree or higher.
    • Preferred 2 years’ experience working in training and development in a manufacturing environment.

    Language Skills

    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A well-modulated tonal volume is required with excellent diction skills needed. English is required as the spoken language. Other languages are a definite asset. The job requires frequent communication with personnel in other CDI facilities, including transportation personnel regarding supply inventories. The Training Specialist must be able to communicate effectively and concisely, either verbally or in writing, on any issues relating to training issues.

    Reasoning Ability

    Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form. Must have the ability to discern when issues may require input from levels of authority within the corporation. Ability to use discretion and handle sensitive/confidential information.

    Physical Demands

    Sitting/Standing/Walking: The employee will spend about 50% of their time sitting at their desk while performing computer tasks to complete schedules/reports, complete paperwork, respond to e-mail and answer calls and other clerical duties. They walk short distances to retrieve and replace files, to photocopy or fax documents, and to interact with other personnel.

    Lifting/Carrying: May lift boxes weighing 20 pounds on an occasional basis.

    Pushing/Pulling: Some pushing or pulling is required on an occasional basis.

    Squatting/Kneeling/Bending/Stooping: May squat or kneel on an occasional basis.

    Twisting/Turning: Assumes any combination of these positions on a frequent basis.

    Climbing/Balancing: May go up and down stairs and/or ladders on an occasional basis.

    Reaching: May reach at or above shoulder level frequently.

    Grasping/Manipulating: Need full range of motion in both hands for data entry and for using other office equipment including, copiers, calculators, and fax machines, as well as for sorting through and organizing documents.

    Equipment

    Operates personal computer to enter data and run reports, and other standard office equipment.

    Work Environment

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work is performed is generally in an office environment, but the employee will be subject to varying degrees of temperature when entering the plant. Personal protective equipment including, but not limited to: hearing protection, bump caps, hair and beard nets, gloves and eye protection must be used in the performance of duties. Proper lifting techniques must be always employed.
