Summary: The Transportation Driver is a member of the personal care staff and is responsible for assuring that the community-sponsored scheduled transportation is implemented appropriately and timely, with residents’ safety and security the primary priority.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Successfully meets all requirements of Transportation Driver position, including Driver Record report; meets and completes ongoing training and driver requirements.
2. Transports community residents to and from medical appointments, activities, and shopping errands using community-owned vehicle.
3. Reads the transportation schedule daily and makes sure all scheduled appointments can be met. Encourages residents to schedule at least 24 hours in advance of any needed appointment. Reminds residents that medical appointments, activities, and shopping are to be scheduled on designated days whenever possible.
4. Is flexible for unscheduled transportation needs in an emergency.
5. Revises schedule accordingly in order to stay with and assist residents who are unable to access community and appointments independently.
6. Completes routine periodic vehicle inspection check and informs Administrator of any maintenance problems or safety issues that need to be addressed.
7. Is thoroughly familiar with fire evacuation, missing persons, and other emergency procedures; follows community policy and procedures detailed in the fire and disaster plans.
8. Ensuring resident safety by loading, transporting, and unloading.
9. Works as the maintenance assistant when not performing transportation duties.
10. All other duties that assigned by any member or management.
Job Qualification:
1. Has a current state driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
2. Requires minimal supervision; is a self-starter.
3. Displays mature behavior and attitude in speech and action; demonstrates consistently pleasant demeanor, tone of voice, supports the philosophy and approach to resident care and passenger safety required by the community.
4. Performs all tasks with grace; works cooperatively with supervisors and displays willingness to assist co-workers.
5. Able to do occasional heavy lifting of residents (up to 80 pounds);
6. Able to spend long periods on feet or driving and to react quickly in any situation.
Universal Precautions: Exposure to blood/body fluid is unlikely.
Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to spend long periods of time on your feet and to ambulate quickly. Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, moving of equipment, bending, and stooping. Must possess sight and hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Must be able to push, move, or lift up to (80) pounds or in excess of eighty (80) pounds with assistance. Must have ability to operate a van lift.
