    Compensation:

    • Annual Salary Range: $61,838.40 - $75,150.40
    • Hourly Pay Range: $29.73 - $36.13


    Position Summary:

    This Assistant Behavioral Safety Section Manager position is located in Topeka, at the Eisenhower State Office Building, and is within the Bureau of Transportation Safety. This position provides financial and program support for the Behavioral Safety Section, which is the State Highway Safety Office for Kansas, and is responsible for supervisory duties of Section staff. The Assistant Behavior Campaign Manager is also responsible for several new requirements under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

    Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

    • Serves as second in command of the Behavioral Safety Section (the Section) with all the commensurate responsibilities that come with leading and managing the Section, including monitoring, training, and evaluating the performance of Section staff and programs. Primary duties include coordinating the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Triennial Highway Safety Plan and 405 Applications as well as the Annual Report.
    • Serves as the lead administrator of the grant management system for the Bureau of Transportation Safety. Responsibilities include training for internal staff, grant recipients, and federal partners on the implementation and utilization of the system.
    • Assists in the administration of traffic safety programs funded by NHTSA and the State of Kansas including program planning, contract negotiation and project management.

    Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Communications, Marketing, Public Health, Business, Accounting, or related field. Four years of relevant experience may substitute for this degree requirement.
    • Two years of experience in planning, organizing, and directing the work of a department, program, or agency.
    • Valid Driver’s License at time of appointment.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • NHTSA related training is preferred.
    • Ability to lead others through difficult situations and provide vision for a better future.
    • Ability to multitask, work with frequent interruptions, and satisfy last minute requests.
    • Two years of experience administering a program/grant or multiple programs/grants.
