Job Description

AECOM Technical Services, Inc. has multiple openings for a Surface Transportation Project Engineer to be based in Detroit, MI.

Job Responsibilities:

• Develop preliminary concepts, comparing parameters such as typical sections, horizontal and vertical alignments, right of way impacts, utility coordination needs, and study-level cost estimates.
• Calculate various roadway components, including geometric design, superelevation, guardrail, intersection detail grades, and ADA curb ramp grading.
• Create models of the existing and proposal roadway surfaces, terrains and end conditions for use in design and quantity calculations.
• Coordinate the design with engineers in adjacent disciplines such as drainage, structures, and traffic signals.
• Develop the roadway plan set/construction drawings including layouts, profiles, typical sections, utilities, and other required details.
• Calculate quantities and detailed design cost estimates.
• Provide quality control by checking and verifying calculations and design work within the team.
• May telecommute.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Candidates must have a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field and 1 year of experience in the job offered or in a transportation engineering-related occupation.

Position requires:

1. Roadway design and plan preparation;

2. DOT, AASHTO, and MUTCD design standards;

3. Making routine detailed engineering calculations using software including Excel;

4. OpenRoads Designer and Corridor Modeling tools within OpenRoads;

5. Autoturn for intersection design; and

6. Developing quantity calculations and cost estimates.
