Differs from Ferryboat Operations Manager A by the absence of managerial responsibility for an assigned ferry location.

Complex ferry vessels are those which are required by the U.S. Coast Guard to have licensed deck and engine room personnel aboard during operations.
Serves as captain of a complex ferry vessel by supervising all operations. Prepares performance reviews and approves leave for Ferryboat personnel assigned to the vessel.
Pilots complex U.S. Coast Guard-inspected ferry vessels that are used to carry vehicles and passengers; may tow vessels for repairs when required.
Oversees master log of all operations and preparation of required reports; submits reports as necessary.
Inspects equipment, machines, rigging, and gear aboard vessels. Provides corrective instruction to Ferryboat personnel as necessary.
Oversees lower-level Ferryboat personnel during exercises for emergency fire and collision drills.
Operates and demonstrates proper use of ferry vessel equipment such as marine radio, state radio, radar, and related safety equipment.
Oversees proper operation and routine maintenance of the engine room and machinery aboard a ferry vessel such as main propulsion diesel engines, main electrical generating plants, hydraulic systems, sanitation systems and pumping systems.
Oversees required engine room logs and preparation of related reports.
Oversees safe refueling operations.
Instructs lower-level Ferryboat personnel in proper procedures to ensure safe operation of the ferry vessel.
May serve ashore to assist Ferryboat Operations Managers by supervising operations for multiple vessels.
