Ultrasound Technologist operates ultrasonic equipment to produce images of the body's organs and tissues for diagnostic purposes. Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Being an Ultrasound Technologist records test results, inspects and maintains equipment, and orders supplies when needed. May require an associate degree in a related area. Additionally, Ultrasound Technologist typically requires completion of an accredited program in Medical Sonography. May require registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). May require a state license to practice. Typically reports to a chief technologist or manager. The Ultrasound Technologist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Under the direction of a Radiologist and supervision of the Leader of Imaging Services and Lead Technologist in Ultrasound, the Ultrasound Technologist performs ultrasound procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a number of technical procedures that will require independent judgment. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedure as required. The Ultrasound Technologist plans for patient/family/significant other educational needs and plans, implements and evaluates knowledge gained through educational efforts. Performs all activities in an ethical and professional manner.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Experience: One (1) year of hospital experience preferred.
Special Qualifications: RDMS and RVT certification are required. Echocardiogram experience preferred.
