As a Consumer Underwriter you will be responsible for assisting retail bankers and underwriters in processing of consumer loan files providing quality loans by underwriting and evaluating consumer loan applications. Also responsible for working collaboratively with lenders to ensure financial needs of our customers are met with loan products offered by bank.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist retail bankers in screening customer loan application to determine loan eligibility by compiling and analyzing personal financial data on daily basis and offering alternatives to meet customer and bank expectations.
- Assess loan quality by analyzing accumulated data and loan structure and confirming loan file is underwritten to specific bank loan policy. Attention to detail is critical.
- Review provided documentation in all types of consumer loans: including vehicles, lot loans, Home Equity LOC & loans, as well as unsecured loans. Provide underwriting conditions to lenders and processors with items needed for clear to close.
- Prepare file recommendation for loans out of underwriters lending authority.
- Prepare write up for proper approval to document file that loan has been approved by proper authority.
- Prepare and recommend files for denial.
- Assist Manger with training new/existing employees on accurate data input for accurate application to reduce potential for negative impact to borrower(s) and bank.
- Provided lender training as needed for both new employees or changes that need to be communicated.
- Answer phone inquiries from lenders and staff to resolve issues and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Evaluate, analyze and recommend process changes that would increase efficiency, ensure competitiveness, and reduce costs or redundancies in Retail Department.
- Attend any compliance meeting or applicable seminars as needed.
- Review for approval and decline of bank credit cards per credit card guidelines.
- Approve transactions for loan disbursements.
- Uphold Nicolet’s philosophy and policies by maintaining appropriate controls to ensure full compliance with applicable laws and regulations, thereby fulfilling legal responsibilities and enhancing the quality of services provided by Nicolet.

- Proficient with computer, phone system, and general office equipment
- Ability to learn and become proficient with Microsoft Office suite and other mortgage software applications
- Highly developed attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize and work rapidly and accurately in fast-paced environment
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- This is a fully in-office position. Working remotely is not an option.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma required.
- Associate degree in business or equivalent financial services industry training preferred.
- 3-4 years administrative experience and/or retail loan documentation experience required.
- 2-3 years consumer lending experience preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
