Underwriter (Life) jobs in Alcester, SD

• Contribute to branch and company profitability and minimize losses by adherence to company underwriting guidelines and proper acceptance or rejection of bond submissions.
• Develop and maintain good agency relations to ensure continued growth and profit, even when rejecting business.
• Assure quality service by effectively and efficiently underwriting a large volume of submissions.
• Keep current with market trends to support company competitiveness with other companies and to make proper underwriting decisions aligned with Old Republic Surety Company underwriting guidelines.
• Implement underwriting changes when directed by branch management of Home Office Underwriters to assure profitability of various classes of business.
• Collaborate effectively with the Marketing Representatives and Senior Underwriters on all aspects of marketing or underwriting commercial surety bonds.
• Act as a resource to Assistant Underwriters in the absence of the branch manager or Senior Underwriter.
• Other duties as assigned. 

Working as a Commercial Underwriter requires one to work independently and effectively within a fast-paced environment.  Proficiency with Microsoft (MS) Windows and Office products is necessary.  Other skills necessary include excellent oral and written communication skills, strong organizational and accurate proofreading skills, the ability to maintain accurate records, the ability to exercise discretion with confidential information, strong attention to detail, and the ability to use a variety of office equipment.
