Underwriting Supervisor oversees activities of the underwriting department. Provides supervision for a group of underwriters who review, analyze, and inspect insurance risk. Being an Underwriting Supervisor analyzes various rate plans utilizing a company's claims history to determine the appropriate rate plan and benefits costs. Must be familiar with regulations at the federal, state and local level. Additionally, Underwriting Supervisor typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. Has no authority for staff actions. Generally has a minimum of 2 years experience as an individual contributor. As an Underwriting Trainee, you'll work under direct guidance of a manager and a coach. You'll participate in a structured professional development program which combines field training and classroom-based technical and sales training, to actively develop commercial property and casualty underwriting skills and learn about commercial property and casualty insurance underwriting philosophy. Training and education on property and casualty insurance products and business strategies are also included in the program curriculum. You will learn to produce and to underwrite new and renewal property and casualty insurance business while gaining experience in building and maintaining productive relationships with agencies and insurance professionals. You'll collaborate with teams of business unit colleagues on skill building exercises, leadership opportunities, special projects, case studies, and critical thinking exercises in order to develop a holistic understanding of the business and a well-rounded approach to underwriting.
