The System Administrator performs some or all of the following essential functions depending on assigned area.
Provides technical leadership and project management for departmental and citywide information systems selection.
Serves as technical expert for the organization, capable of analysis, implementation and support of the City's information technology infrastructure, including new or upgrade installations of existing clients, servers, applications and information systems security.
Assists staff within the information technology work group and in departments in formulating short and long range plans regarding City computing needs.
Monitors system performance; verifies systems are working properly; performs upgrades as necessary; supports and maintains servers and associated equipment and ensures high availability.
Develops backup and disaster data recovery strategies.Responds to service outages and other problems with mission-critical systems.
Verifies that hardware and software purchase requests comply with City standards. Coordinates procurement of desktop hardware purchases for the organization; configures desktops and installs at users' locations.Manages hardware and software warranty and maintenance contracts. Maintains computer equipment inventory.
Delivers excellent customer service to diverse audiences.Provides support for technical issues and troubleshoots problems to resolution.
Prepares and maintains up-to-date documentation supporting assigned and related areas of responsibility.
Coordinates and conducts user training, education and problem-solving sessions; maintains user-accessible knowledge base for self-service problem resolution; assist users regarding system functionality.
Accesses sensitive and confidential information, complies with City and department policy regarding such access, and maintains the confidentiality of the information.
Recommends policies for the use of the computer systems as well as security policies for employees and computer systems.
Operates and drives a motor vehicle safely and legally.
Acts ethically and honestly; applies ethical standards of behavior to daily work activities and interactions. Builds confidence in the City through own actions.
Conforms to all safety rules and performs work in a safe manner.
