Purpose: The Director of Recruitment leads the new girl and new adult focused efforts of Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa –providing strategic oversight while practicing servant leadership. This role focuses on the expansion of our membership – ensuring we reach potential members in all council communities. The Director is responsible for developing, executing, and assessing comprehensive year-round recruitment strategies, plans and activities related to girl and adult membership growth. To increase awareness and participation in Girl Scouting, a variety of in-person meetings, presentations, and networking opportunities with community organizations, corporations, schools, educators, faith-based institutions, and other community constituents will be conducted. The Director also has the responsibility to coach, manage and advise Regional Recruitment Managers as they manage their own individual territories. This position ensures all plans support and reinforce the Girl Scout philosophy and standards and DEI efforts to foster strong relationship with members, organizations, and communities at large.
A day in the life… (Essential functions)
- Identify and develop comprehensive annual strategies to increase adult and girl membership; propose and present strategies to VP for discussion, input and review; advise VP and leadership team on optimal actions for successful recruitment
- In conjunction with the Membership Recruitment team, contribute to the development of outside membership recruitment strategies; implements all finalized strategies to meet new member council goals
- Partner with VP to manage all phases of the recruitment strategy from development through implementation; communicate strategy to with recruitment team to develop action plan and carry out implementation of plans
- Research market data, membership trends, and other essential information important to strategy formulation; identifies issues and opportunities
- Keep up to date with National Girl Scouts of the USA membership updates, national trends and relevant strategies, including networking with other peers from other Girl Scout councils
- Identify and seek opportunities with recruitment targets. Reach out and contact a wide variety of individuals and organizations within different areas to generate membership opportunities, including but not limited to: education, business, community and faith based organizations, leaders and other community members. Establish, develop and maintain collaborative relationships with organizations and leaders to secure opportunities
- Develop reports and metrics to track recruitment progress and trends
- Customize approach for lead generation and follow-up to convert all leads to members
- Utilize Customer Relationship Management system (Salesforce) and train team on resources
- Collaborate with all departments to develop and implement communication plans to promote recruitment across the entire council jurisdiction
- Collaborate with marketing department or third-party marketing firm on crafting messages, disseminating GSGI marketing materials, and getting the word out on meetings/sessions to help increase audience participation for events, promote visibility, address Girl Scout goals, and cultivate membership.
- Communicate the GSGI message consistently to all audiences
- Direct, monitor, and evaluate employee performance on their individual action plans and schedules for target contacts and preparation of status reports, providing ongoing feedback; interview applicants; communicate goals to employees; plan, assign, and direct work; reward, coach and / or counsel employees as appropriate; address complaints and resolves problems; ensure employee training and development needs are met
- Work to ensures Girl Scouting is open to all girls and adults by delivering the Girl Scouts message of pluralism and diversity to members of the council
- Ensure that recruitment strategies and plans are consistent with the philosophy and mission of Girl Scouting and the council’s overarching strategy
- Promote and assist with Council wide programs, activities, public relations and fund development endeavors including United Way, Product Program, etc.
- Manage recruitment team annual budget and corresponding resource allocations
- Perform other duties as assigned

The fine print… (Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in strategy, management, sales or marketing
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a leadership or managerial role
- Previous experience recruiting volunteers or members preferred
- Previous experience in a sales related position and knowledge of the fundamentals of effective sales and marketing principles
- Experience working with or contacting community leaders or organizations
- Ability to problem-solve and highly organized
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills along with the ability to present information to a variety of audiences
- Strong customer service skills
- Strong computer skills including MS Office products
