Waste Water Treatment Plant Manager supervises the operations and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant to ensure compliance with regulatory procedures and reporting practices. Oversees sampling and testing systems, and the testing and maintenance of pumps, conveyors, blowers, and other equipment. Being a Waste Water Treatment Plant Manager ensures staff is up-to-date with all federal, state, and local regulations and environmental guidelines. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or other tech degree. Additionally, Waste Water Treatment Plant Manager typically reports to a manager or director. The Waste Water Treatment Plant Manager supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Water Treatment Plant Intern

Under supervision of the Water Treatment Plant Superintendent and/or plant operator, this role performs entry-level work in the operation and minor maintenance of a water treatment facility. Work involves on-the-job training in the duties of a water treatment plant operator with the aim of increasing familiarization with the operations, terminology, and requirements of this career. The supervisor will provide training, coaching, and instruction about operational procedures and standards. Feedback will be provided throughout the internship to note progress.  
     
    This seasonal intern position offers 40 hours per week with start on June 10, 2024 and end on December 6, 2024.

    • Participates in an on-the-job training program involving practical, "hands-on" experience with plant operations under supervision
    • Starts and stops machinery and pumps, regulates valves and observes dials
    • Performs and/or assist with limited maintenance, minor repairs, and various other tasks, operates, oils, and adjusts machinery
    • Assist in disassembling, repairing, and reassembling pumps and equipment as required, maintains and calibrates meters and testing equipment
    • Performs cleanup work on equipment, cleans plant interior, performs housekeeping duties such as sweeping and mopping floors, washing windows, painting, and light building maintenance, maintains grounds as required
    • Records plant operation statistics on log sheets, changes charts and recording sheets
    • Assist with additional administrative task as needed
    • Assists in the operation and inspection of the water treatment plant, pumping stations, and related facilities.
    • Assists with drawing samples of water for test and analysis, checks and adjusts chemical feeders in accordance with prescribed standards, washes filters periodically
    • Other duties as assigned

    Education, Training and Experience:

    • Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent required
    • Prefer currently enrolled college student with course work in mathematics, biology, chemistry, or technical training specializing in electrical or mechanical applications.
    • Higher education with an emphasis in water or wastewater is a plus 
    Special License, Registration, or Certificate Required:
    • All candidates must be at least 18 years of age.
    • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License in good standing with no major violations.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Ability to learn to operate and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment
    • Ability to learn mathematics, chemistry and biology
    • Ability to learn and use a personal computer
    • Ability to understand written and oral instructions
    • Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships
    • Ability to learn the operation of tools and equipment
    • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and shift work in isolation
    • Ability to stand, walk, sit, and/or climb for extended periods 
    Physical Requirements:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands, fingers, handle, or feel tools or controls; read, speak and hear; and taste or smell.  The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and on occasion as much as 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must have the ability to climb up and down steep ladders and stairs. The employee must have the ability to walk up to one-half mile per day for site inspections.
     
    Work Environment:
    The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The employee is exposed to outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate but on occasion can be loud. The employee is required to climb stairs to reach the top of, and drop into water storage tanks of up to 30 feet while performing their job.
