JOB TITLE: Water & Wastewater Services Technician (Retail Department)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK PERFORMED:
Essential duties & responsibilities include:
· Installation, maintenance, and repair of the Jackson County Utility Authority’s Retail effluent pump systems, grinder pump stations, sewer lift stations, gravity sewer and water service taps and lines.
· Operate and maintain the Retail service equipment such as dump truck, vacuum truck, backhoe, trackhoe and excavator equipment in a safe manner.
· Monitor all equipment being operated for unusual conditions or irregularities of performance.
· Perform routine service maintenance on Authority equipment as directed.
· Respond to emergency problems during and after normal work hours as required.
DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Basic PVC plumbing and electrical experience is desired. Heavy equipment operation and maintenance experience is highly desirable. Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools employed in heavy equipment operations is a plus. Specific training from a vocational school in maintenance and operation of heavy equipment is also desirable. MS Class II Collection System Operator certification desirable.
SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS MAY INCLUDE
(But are not limited to):
1. Must have a valid driver’s license for all Authority vehicles.
2. Must be able to obtain a Class A CDL.
3. Must obtain CS II Collections System License within eighteen months of employment.
4. Must be a high school graduate (GED acceptable).
5. Must have experience in operation and maintenance of dump trucks, backhoes, trackhoes, excavators and other heavy equipment.
6. Must have experience with PVC, HDPE, and brass plumbing fittings, and basic electrical.
7. Must be knowledgeable of safe practices and procedures used in loading, operating, unloading, and servicing heavy equipment.
8. Must possess the skills necessary to effectively communicate and relate to members of the general public.
9. Must be physically capable of operating all Authority vehicles and working with hand tools, lift and carry loads up to 100 pounds. Must meet all physical conditions established by Authority Industrial Wellness Advisor and Evaluator.
10. Must be able to work independently.
11. Must not fear confined spaces or heights.
12. Must be able to work around wastewater environment.
13. Must be insurable on the Authority's auto insurance policy.
14. Must be able to work rotating call-out for emergency repairs.
15. Must maintain a residence which allows a reasonable response time.
16. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
