    Project Overview:

    Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford site in southeastern Washington State. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era. The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities – Pretreatment, High-Level Waste Vitrification – as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.


    Job Summary:

    The Electrical Superintendent is assigned to the field construction organization in a supervisory capacity. Responsible for supervising and directing operations within the Electrical discipline. Supervises and directs craft activities, subordinate superintendents, and others, as assigned. Ensures assigned construction operations and subcontractors’ performance comply with specifications and within schedules and budget. Performs general functions inherent in all supervisory field positions. This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of Waste Treatment Completion Company. #LI-CL1


    Major Responsibilities:

    The Electrical Superintendent is responsible for the planning and execution of all Electrical work performed by Bechtel direct hire craft.

    Responsibilities to include but not limited to the following:

    • Supervises and directs craft activities, subordinate superintendents, and others, as assigned.
    • Ensures assigned construction operations’ performance are in compliance with specifications.
    • Performs general functions inherent in all supervisory field positions.
    • Schedules and directs the sequence of work for several crews of related crafts operating within a single area and/or subordinate superintendents within that same area.
    • Plans and coordinates the installation of temporary and permanent power.
    • Supervises installation of above ground raceways and supports, underground raceway, cable installation, cable and wire terminations, instrumentation, electrical equipment, medium and high voltage equipment.
    • Performs effective planning of all work activities to ensure optimum performance and productivity of direct hire construction work performed on the project.
    • Interfaces with Labor Relations for craft recruitment and training programs.
    • Optimizes the use of construction equipment and tools on the project.
    • Provides constructability suggestions, input, and feedback.
    • Provides leadership for the safety, accident prevention, and fire prevention programs on the project which includes conducting safety orientation of new employees.
    • Inspecting the site for unsafe conditions and practices.
    • Taking appropriate corrective action to correct all observed problems, leading daily/weekly Plan of the Day and toolbox safety meetings.
    • Ensures that all Bechtel, State, and Federal safety codes, requirements, and standards are being complied within assigned area of responsibility.


    Education and Experience Requirements:

    • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
    • Possess the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
    • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
    • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford site.
    • Must be physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, using fall protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE), walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, and maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces.


    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Basic Field Manual and/or Non-Manual supervision experience with a strong electrical background.
    • Experience in Construction Project Planning and Scheduling.
    • Knowledge of Construction Quality Assurance.
    • Knowledge of a single or multi discipline construction or engineering operations.
    • Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to field activities.
    • Working knowledge of unionized labor.
    • Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment.
    • Familiarity with current industry quality standards.
    • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and technical database applications.
    • Experience with lock-out/tag-out requirements and processes.
    • Knowledge of project-specific environmental compliance requirements.
    • Possess Nuclear Construction knowledge and experience including a commitment to a Nuclear Safety and Quality Culture.
    • Knowledge Safety Program and familiar with current industry safety standards.
    • Knowledge and experience of the Integrated Safety Management System guiding principles and core functions.
    • Experience in safety compliance and familiar with Bechtel processes and procedures.
