Welder joins, fabricates, and repairs metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques. Interprets blueprints, specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine appropriate welding process. Being a Welder inspects completed welds to determine structural soundness. Familiar with and complies with all safety requirements and protocols for working in a hazardous environment. Additionally, Welder may prepare the materials and set up for a welding device or robot. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Welder works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. As a CPI Welder, you will occupy a key role in working with and for a company that builds the physical infrastructure that powers, protects and secures the world’s digital technology. Day to day, you will, Under direct supervision set up and operates gas and electric welding equipment used in the manufacturing of metal cabinets. Responsible for meeting safety, quality and productivity expectations.
Essential Functions:
1. Under supervision, sets up and operates different types of equipment used to weld metal cabinets and other related products.
2. Plans details of working procedure, tools, and material requirements.
3. Welds sheet metal using different welding positions (flat, overhead, vertical, etc.).
4. Cleans and prepares surfaces (including sanding) to be welded.
5. Uses cutting torch equipment to dismantle assemblies and to cut material to size and shape.
6. Builds up worn or defective surfaces.
7. Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly.
8. Works from blueprint, engineering specifications and production schedules.
9. Upon completion of welding operations, assists other areas as needed.
