KDS Windsor is seeking an experienced Welder I. In this position, you will have a role in our Production Department supporting our production needs. This includes welding, cutting, fabricating metal and products by means of flame-cutting and arc welding equipment going to our various batch and continuous lumber drying kilns, and wood waste heat plants around the Southeast and Pacific Northwest United States. The Welder I will contribute to metal fabrication and repairs, quality inspection, maintain safety standards, and promote a positive working environment.
This is a full-time position and will report directly to the Production Supervisor.
Qualifications
- Ability to read measurements with a tape measure.
- Ability to read blueprint designs.
- 1 year or more of specific experience and/or training related to the essential functions of the job; or equivalent combination of education and training.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Job Duties
- Plans details of work order procedures and gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job.
- Prepares, assembles, and tacks both weld parts and surfaces to be welded.
- Maintains, organizes, and cleans both the equipment and the work area.
- Monitors the welding, burning, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage.
- Notifies the supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered.
- Repairs and fabricates various items and equipment using cutting, burning, and welding techniques and equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must pass a carbon steel FCAW welding test in the 1G and 2G positions, and a MIG Spray Arc welding test in the 1G position, as a required prerequisite.
- Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding including designs, uses, maintenance and repair.
- Excellent ability to read and adhere to assignments given in a variety of forms.
- Basic understanding of design techniques, principles, and tools necessary for the precise production of technical plans, drawings, models, and blueprints.
- Must pass a pre-employment company background check.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- U.S. Work Authorization.

- Must be able to work overtime, when needed.
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Cross-train in other departments.
- Ability to work in hot environments, indoors.
- Must be able to see details at close range.
- Must be able to weld components that are vertical, flat, or overhead.
- Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
- Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.

- Hourly position (Schedule: Monday-Friday, from 7:00am-5:30pm).
