Welder joins, fabricates, and repairs metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques. Interprets blueprints, specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine appropriate welding process. Being a Welder inspects completed welds to determine structural soundness. Familiar with and complies with all safety requirements and protocols for working in a hazardous environment. Additionally, Welder may prepare the materials and set up for a welding device or robot. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Welder works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.     Shift and Hours:

    1st - 6:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Thursday

    2nd - 3:30 pm to 2:00 am Monday through Thursday

    Weekend - 6:00 am to 6:30 pm Friday through Sunday


    SUMMARY

    Set up and operate welding machines that weld together and mass-produce component parts of fabricated metal products as specified by blueprints (read and understand weld symbols), layouts, welding procedures or oral instructions. Join two pieces of metal to create a quality customer product using methods such as MIG welding. Robot and spot weld included. Tack-weld or weld components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment. Heats, forms, and dresses metal parts using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment. Ignites torch and adjusts valves, amperage or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc. Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Obtains specified electrode and inserts electrode into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through portable welding gun.
    • Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified.
    • Starts power supply to produce electric current. Strikes (forms) arc, which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to workpiece and join edges of workpiece.
    • Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
    • Position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in jig or fixture.
    • Measures part dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation
    • May tack assemblies together.
    • May operate other machine shop equipment to prepare components for welding.
    • Works safely at all times and follows safety procedures.
    • Operates any equipment needed to perform job.
    • Performs related duties as assigned by supervision.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and demonstrate the ability to speak and read English. Must consistently meet weld quality standards and demonstrate knowledge of MIG, stainless steel, carbon steel and aluminum welding, and automated welding where applicable. Employees must supply their own hand tools. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.     EDUATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

    • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
    • Six months to one year of related experience and/or vocational training, or experience in a metal fabrication shop.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    • Ability to lift 50 lbs with or without accommodations.
    • Ability to stand on feet for 10- or 12-hour shifts.
