    Overview

    Purpose and Essential Duties

    The Sr Director of Fabrication Operations is responsible for the oversight of fabrication services for all of Bernhard’s locations.  This position provides leadership and oversight for the day-to-day fabrication of HVAC, mechanical piping, sheet metal and plumbing, including modular and multi-trade racks & skids.

    Responsibilities

    Specific responsibilities include:

    • Ensures and improves performance, productivity, efficiency, and profitability of the piping, sheet metal and modular/racks fabrication branches.
    • Manages fabrication services P&L, including participation in the development of the operating budget.
    • Establishes and manages KPIs aligned with fabrication material and labor estimates.
    • Maintains and promotes a safe and efficient working environment that enhances employee morale and ensures safety practices are followed.
    • Hires, develops and mentors the supervisory team, including fabrication managers and coordinators to maintain performance standards as defined by products and service levels, utilizing metrics and tools.
    • Manages staffing, scheduling, assignments and inventory to maintain budgetary targets successfully and achieve targeted financial goals of the facilities and business unit.
    • Coordinates with customers including Business Unit Managers and Operations Managers on a regular basis, ensuring all performance expectations are met or exceeded.
    • Coordinates, monitors, manages and facilitates the interaction with and obtaining support from Ops service groups such as BIM, Purchasing, Estimating, Engineering and Safety; including driving BIM spooling and purchasing to meet production quality and deliverable schedule.
    • Monitors daily production to ensure that all production standards are met.
    • Reviews and understands estimates for Fabrication and ensures change orders and budget changes are processed to align with fabrication work being performed.
    • Upgrades skills and industry knowledge of all members of the team through training and other appropriate means.
    • Coordinates and upgrades quality assurance program including inspection, documentation and training.
    • Leads strategic execution of continuous improvement and optimize manufacturing process flow utilizing Lean Manufacturing practices.
    • Participates in the preparation of ROI and budget for significant equipment and facility investments.

     

    This position is Full-Time, Exempt, and reports to the Vice President of Fabrication Services.

    Qualifications

    Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications

    • Trade school/Apprenticeship Certification and/or bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Management or Finance.
    • 8 Years of experience managing manufacturing or fabrication facility with greater than 30 employees.
    • Ability to understand P6 Scheduling.
    • Ability to understand and analyze financial and other business data to effectively make continuous
    • Exceptional customer service, relationship building and communication building skills.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.
    • Versed in the industry and the Company’s competitors.
    • Ability to multitask and perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary.

     

    Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications

    • Trade school/Apprenticeship in Plumbing, HVAC piping, industrial piping, or sheet metal.
    • Mechanical or Industrial Engineering experience.
    • Certified Welding Inspector Certification (WS/QC1).
    • Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma Certification.
    • Experience with ISO 9001 or UL Certification processes.

     

    Travel Requirements

    • 15% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location.

     

    Physical/Work Environment Requirements

    • Climbing stairs.
    • Remaining in a stationary position, often kneeling, standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
    • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
    • Quiet environment.
    • Light work that includes adjusting and/or moving objects up to 20 pounds.
