Workers' Compensation Claims Manager manages accountabilities in the administration of first and third party worker's compensation claims. Manages domestic and/or international claim management strategies critical to the organization's success. Being a Workers' Compensation Claims Manager is responsible for reporting, investigation, and analysis; litigation management; resolution/outcome management; and the delivery of claim information. Manages litigated and moderately complex claims and is entrusted with significant settlement authority. Additionally, Workers' Compensation Claims Manager creates and develops relationships with claims adjusters, insurers, outside legal counsel, and other claims related parties. Directs workers' compensation claims policies and procedures within the claim information analysis. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Workers' Compensation Claims Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be a Workers' Compensation Claims Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     What You’ll Do:
    Acts as the company point-of-contact for all employees who have suffered work-related injuries.  Coordinates with injured employees, insurance carriers, medical providers, and attorneys to facilitate and assist in resolving the claim.  Continually updates claims in Risk Manager and notifies all involved parties of injured employee’s on-going status.    

    • Ensures that injured employees are provided initial medical care, transportation and lodging as needed.
    • Provides documentation to insurance carriers to establish claims.
    • Actively participates in daily phone-que to intake claims and answer questions from employees as scheduled by supervisor.
    • Coordinates transitional duty assignments with employees and insurance carriers when applicable based on work-status provided by treating provider.
    • Informs Human Resources when employees have been placed in Workers’ Compensation status in case FMLA will be needed.  
    • Communicates any Safety/Liability issues identified as a result of employees’ injuries. 
    • Advises management of the status of employees on workers’ compensation.
    • Follows reserves set by insurance carrier on claim files. 
    • Documents insurance providers’ compensability determination for claims in Risk Manager.
    • Reviews and acts upon information received in daily reporting and diaries for optimal claim management.
    • Reviews return-to-work releases from the medical provider and ensures documentation addresses employees’ ability to perform job functions.  May coordinate employees’ return-to-work processing.
    • May be asked to perform periodic on-call duties. 

    What We’re Looking For:
    Education

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  •  

    Experience

    • 1-3 years of applicable experience in Workers’ Comp, Insurance Industry, or Healthcare preferred

     

    Skills/Certifications

    • Strong communication and written skills.
    • Must be proficient in use of computer including MS Word and Excel.
    • Knowledge of state laws regarding workers’ comp strongly preferred.
