Workers' Compensation Claims Manager manages accountabilities in the administration of first and third party worker's compensation claims. Manages domestic and/or international claim management strategies critical to the organization's success. Being a Workers' Compensation Claims Manager is responsible for reporting, investigation, and analysis; litigation management; resolution/outcome management; and the delivery of claim information. Manages litigated and moderately complex claims and is entrusted with significant settlement authority. Additionally, Workers' Compensation Claims Manager creates and develops relationships with claims adjusters, insurers, outside legal counsel, and other claims related parties. Directs workers' compensation claims policies and procedures within the claim information analysis. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Workers' Compensation Claims Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be a Workers' Compensation Claims Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Position Summary

    Under minimal supervision, manages and directs activity of ECU Health workers compensation claims ensuring high-quality results and management of claims in compliance with state laws and company procedures. This position requires considerable interaction on the phone with claimants, doctors, employers, investigators, attorneys with management, other ECU Health staff.

    Responsibilities

    • Effectively manages a caseload of 150 indemnity workers¿ compensation files, including very complex claims.
    • Initiates and conducts investigation in a timely manner based upon state law and best practices for claims handling
    • Determines compensability of claims and administer benefits, based upon state law and in accordance with established Company guidelines
    • Manages medical treatment and medical billing, authorizing as appropriate based on ECU Health claims handling guidelines
    • Communicates with claimants, providers and vendors regarding claims issues
    • Computes and set reserves based upon ECU Health claims handling guidelines with minimal supervision.
    • Negotiates and/or finalize all claims based on settlement authority.

    • Maintains diary system for case review and documents file to reflect the status and work being performed on the file.
    • Communicates appropriate information promptly to resolve claims efficiently, including any injury trends or other safety related concerns

    Minimum Requirements

    Requirements

    • High School Degree required
    • Licensed Claims Adjustor in North Carolina is required
    • 3 - 4 years experience as an adjustor

    Preferred Requirements

    • Bachelors Degree preferred

    Shift: Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm
