Job Description

The Certified Professional Coder works with coding databases and confirms DRG assignments. Abstracts clinical information from a variety of medical records, charts and documents and assigns appropriate ICD-10 and/or CPT-4 codes to patient records according to established procedures. Being a Certified Professional Coder typically requires an associate's degree or its equivalent. Inputs and maintains data on procedures required for state or other reporting. In addition, Certified Professional Coder typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Typically requires Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from AAPC or AHIMA. Being a Certified Professional Coder gains or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Works under moderate supervision.
