The Commodities Purchasing Specialist I monitors and analyzes the commodities market, global economic conditions, and events to make informed purchase decisions. Purchases raw materials used to process and manufacture products or to conduct research or other business activities. Being a Commodities Purchasing Specialist I participates in bidding and contract negotiations to obtain the best pricing to meet commodity needs. Identifies, evaluates, and monitors suppliers to develop reliable sourcing and ensure the quality and availability of required commodities. In addition, Commodities Purchasing Specialist I analyzes inventory levels, manufacturing schedules, and long-term business objectives to plan and manage purchases. Complies with all applicable regulations and standards governing the purchase and delivery of goods. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. Being a Commodities Purchasing Specialist I work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.
