The Director of Product Development leads research for new products, product enhancements, and product redesign. Oversees and implements product development policies, objectives, and initiatives. Being a Director of Product Development requires a bachelor's degree. Evaluates the potential and practicality of products in development. In addition, Director of Product Development demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Typically reports to top management. The Director of Product Development manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. Working as a Director of Product Development typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.
