The Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) investigates possible incidences of infection and implements remedial action. Performs hospital-wide surveillance and data collection as part of an overall infection-control program. Being an Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) informs the appropriate state and county organizations of any reportable infections and diseases. Works with the infection control committee to establish infection control standards and procedures, and educates staff on how to prevent and control infections. In addition, Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) requires graduation from an approved nursing program. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. May require CIC certification. Years of experience may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement.
