Pilots aircraft to test features and functionality and to ensure compliance with federal regulations and product specifications. Being a Maintenance Test Pilot performs maneuvers and procedures to test features or modifications. Recommends changes to cockpit or aircraft to better meet the pilot's needs or to improve flight. In addition, Maintenance Test Pilot may pilot demonstrations for officials or customers. May require a bachelor's degree. Requires FAA Commercial Pilot's License with necessary ratings. Typically reports to a manager. Being a Maintenance Test Pilot work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.
