Summary

Support ASI’s Corporate Secretary, attorneys, and management team in preparing written materials that are durable records of ASI’s actions.Materials include governance materials and communications as well as business case documents prepared for ASI’s corporate records and AARP stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  1. Drafts documents and edits materials provided by ASI management for the ASI and AARP Board of Directors, with a focus on communicating ASI’s and AARP’s strategies, when appropriate.
  2. Work with Office of General Counsel staff and ASI’s management, including the Business Development team, to draft and/or edit durable business records related to deals with third party service providers, including Business Case and Deal Term Summary documents. 
  3. Develops and maintains deep knowledge of ASI and AARP and its priorities and goals.
  4. Maintains internal and external networking and contacts and deep knowledge of the AARP organization, priorities, and history and utilizes those contacts and knowledge effectively to contribute to writing and editing content, as needed.
  5. Keeps knowledgeable about changing best practices in print content and governance writing. 
Requirements

Completion of a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3+ years of experience in journalism and/or speechwriting.  Comparable experience substantiated by an outstanding publication record can substitute for any of the above.

Enthusiasm for AARP’s social mission to empower older Americans to choose how they live as they age.

Demonstrated excellence in writing and journalistic skills as evidenced by published work in quality print or web publications.

Demonstrated ability to write about complex subjects in effective and appealing ways. 

Ability to transform other authors’ rough drafts into clear, polished prose.

Able to work collaboratively and effectively across teams.

Demonstrated ability to handle appropriate work load efficiently and effectively and to manage assignments, meet deadlines, and contribute creative ideas to the writer-editor-producer team.
