Linode, the leader in cloud hosting for developers, is seeking a talented Technical Writer to join our growing documentation team. As a Technical Writer at Linode you will be required to write customer service focused documentation, API documentation, and product focused documentation. You should also have significant prior experience with, and knowledge of, Linux and open source software. You will need a command of the english language, and a working knowledge of Git.

In your first 30 days of writing for Linode, you will work on improving a large collection of existing documentation and familiarizing yourself with our publishing stack and workflow. After 60 days, you will start attending product meetings and assisting in the documentation efforts of those products, sometimes it’s technical documentation, sometimes you’ll need to dig through a configuration file to write a snippet of copy. After 90 days you will be familiar with most aspects of technical writing at Linode, you will support our team and write based on the needs and effort of the department and the company.

This is a full-time position based out of our office in Philadelphia, PA.

Primary Responsibilities

• Write, organize, and curate technical content about Linux, Cloud, and software development topics.
• Edit and proofread documentation created by other writers and subject matter experts in a collaborative editing environment
• Write and contribute to API documentation.
• Write website copy and product descriptions
• Work directly with Engineering, Product, and Customer Support teams to collect information required for the preparation of documents and develop a strong technical understanding of the topics.
• Contribute to plans for creating new guides and editing existing documentation
• Work independently and cross-functionally under general supervision
• Help to create company documentation strategy, creating processes to organize documentation and assisting technical teams with knowledge capture


Job Requirements

• BA/BS in Technical Communications, English, Computer Science, or another subject.
• 2+ years of technical writing experience.
• Experience with Git and Github.
• Outstanding proofreading and editing skills.
• The ability to read and understand code: Python, Javascript, Java, Go, etc.
• The ability to use a Linux shell environment.
• Experience working in an agile environment.
