DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS The Police Cadet is a non-sworn class, part-time position responsible for performing non- emergency and non-hazardous civilian law enforcement duties. Cadets will be provided with the opportunity to pursue a law enforcement career by applying for a sworn or civilian position. Incumbents may be appointed to Police Trainee to attend the police academy with a formal training program or they may be given the opportunity to pursue a civilian position such as; Dispatcher, Community Services Officer, Property and Evidence Technician, Public Safety Office Specialist, or Crime Scene Technician. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. On a limited basis, takes select police reports from witnesses, victims, and other involved parties.

SUMMARY Depending on assignment, officer is responsible for the protection of life and property; crime prevention; apprehension of criminals; follow-up investigation on reported crimes; undercover narcotics investigations; maintaining property room; crime scene technicians; traffic enforcement; and the general enforcement of laws and ordinances by performing the following duties. Reporting relationships, work assignments, and work schedules may be subject to change in order to meet City needs or operational requirements.
