Job Description

The IT Security Manager defines and develops security requirements using risk assessments, threat modeling, testing, and analysis of existing systems. Manages a team of cybersecurity professionals that plan and design security solutions that enable the organization to identify, protect, detect, respond, and recover from cyber threats and vulnerabilities. Being an IT Security Manager reviews and implements action plans for policy creation and governance, system hardening, monitoring, incident response, disaster recovery, and emerging cybersecurity threats. Manages the security integration plans to protect existing infrastructure and to incorporate future solutions. In addition, IT Security Manager partners and collaborates with stakeholders to encourage the adoption of security-compatible software designs and best practices. Keeps abreast of the latest intelligence from law enforcement and other sources of cyber threat information. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering. May require Certified Information Security Manager (CISM). May require Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). Typically reports to a director. The IT Security Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Working as an IT Security Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.
