Q. Two weeks ago I took a part-time job as an x-ray technician. In the classified ad the employer listed two positions available: x-ray technician and medical assistant. When I applied for the x-ray job, I was asked whether I was able to perform the duties of the other job, if needed. I said yes, I could and would help out if needed. Now I seem to be doing both jobs and the company isn't trying to fill the other position. I don't mind doing the work, because it enhances my skills, but I don't want to be taken advantage of. Should I address the situation now or bide my time? If they do not hire... view article details

No One Knows Blue Collar Jobs Better than Mike Rowe At one point or another, you've probably seen someone performing a "dirty" job and said to yourself "You couldn't pay me enough to do that." But Mike Rowe, host of TV's Dirty Jobs, gets paid to do exactly that. And, in an interview with Salary.com last week, said he thinks more people should follow suit. “Whatever else anything is, it ought to begin by being personal.” This quote was a turning point in the 1996 drama/romance film “You’ve Got Mail”.  Truth is, I cannot remember many details of the movie beyond the cursory storyline and the luxurious two-hour “brain candy” escape from business plans and young children, but this one line has always stuck with me as particularly valuable in both life and work. For those of you who haven’t seen the movie, the story began more than a decade ago when Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks collided again in a gurgling stew of love and hate as Kathleen (Meg Ryan) lo... view blog & white papers details

What makes a good Analyst?  Analyst is a very broad term used differently in every organization and job.  But when you think of an Analyst what are the key attributes you think of?   So often job descriptions and hiring managers focus only on technical skills.  The ability to write kick-ass queries and wrangle data like nobody's business. The ability to unconsciously notice the relatedness between several pieces of... view blog & white papers details
