Job Purpose: The Planner is responsible for assisting in the planning of projects from start to finish and will play a central role in the planning and coordination, as well as performance reporting of assigned company projects for operational delivery.
The planner will monitor and report to confirm that planned works are completed in a timely manner and that any major risks and slippage are identified and reported to the management team in a timeframe that allows for appropriate corrective action. Working closely with the operational teams they will identify any potential challenges before they occur and make recommendations to maximise the utilisation of the available workforce.
Responsibilities:
- Producing progress reports on ongoing programmes of work
- Reporting all major constraints to projects
- Provide weekly planning, cost, and resource information including utilisation and efficiency ratios as required for the project teams
- Produce, update and monitor planned programmes using either Primavera P6, MS Project or other software depending on client requirements
- Plan and schedule work based on demand, workload, skillset, and available parts
- Preparing, reviewing and maintaining fully resourced programme schedules including appraising the outcomes for conformance with expectations and requirements
- Develop and implement changes to programmes to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
- Effectively record and organise all critical work documentation to comply with company policies and provide historical data as needed
Accountabilities:
- Ensuring that the programme content is functionally compliant with planning standards, procedures, and guidance
- Identifying the planning scope including constraints; major quantities and contract requirements
External relationships and communication:
- Liaising with third parties including the Client, Customer and Suppliers to identify and resolve issues
- Contacting and updating customers and clients throughout job progression
- Proactively networking within the relevant communities to support personal and business development
Internal relationships and communications
- Sharing and obtaining information from the appropriate operational team to input into programmes
- Accountable to the Project Lead, ensuring that the Contract Programme is produced, managed and maintained in accordance with the planning standards, and strategy
- Set up appropriate lean visual programme to assist the Project Team to timely deliver projects and improve productivity, performance, and safety of projects
Key measures and targets: Specific measurements and targets will be agreed as part of regular Manager one to ones and the appraisal process and will include as a minimum:
- Produce robust tender programmes as and when required
- Produce monthly reporting construction programmes in line with the client requirements
- All work produced according to pre-agreed timeframes, quality and cost
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Knowledge and Experience - Essential
- Commercial, contractual and CDM awareness
- Working knowledge of Risk Assessment Method Statements
- An understanding of the construction market, methods of construction, plant, equipment, and labour requirements
- Excellent IT skills in the use of Microsoft Office including, Word, Excel and Outlook
- Excellent written communication and presentation skills
- Clear thinker, able to prioritise, problem-solve and find creative solutions
- Excellent analytical and organisational skills
- Willingness to continue professional development to maintain and enhance skills and qualifications
Knowledge and Experience – Desirable
- Knowledge of Primavera P6 or MS Project
- Understanding of planning techniques and the required planning toolset
- An understanding of risk and opportunity management with reference to planning programming
Education and Training – Essential
- Educated to degree level or equivalent on the job experience complemented by vocational qualifications in civil engineering
- A full UK driving licence
- Airside pass requirements to be met in full
