We are seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our expanding Commercial team here at Aster. You will provide commercial support to Aster’s in-house contracting company, Aster Property, who manage and deliver a wide range of services across housing repairs and maintenance and planned investment functions, both directly and through sub-contracted packages.
As part of the Commercial team, you will play an important role in providing assurance to the Aster Group around costs and value for money, from the assessment of tenders; to the monitoring of spend activity, performance and contract progress; to the authorisation of payments and variations. One of the key responsibilities of this role will be to support the development and implementation of pre-contract commercial processes, supporting the procurement of our supply chain and providing the lead in the commercial negotiation of contracts.
You will work as part of a team of Quantity Surveyors, set up to support a wide range of workstreams across the Aster operational regions, ranging from housing repairs and maintenance, planned and major works programmes, to mechanical and engineering, external works and fire safety and compliance works.
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and relationship building skills, including a willingness to challenge operational colleagues and sub-contractors and highlight opportunities to improve value for money.

About you
You will have substantial post qualification or equivalent professional experience in a commercial QS/Estimator role. If you also have experience in the social housing sector that will beneficial.
You’ll be experienced in managing the commercial aspects of successful schemes within a housing investment, repairs or maintenance setting demonstrating your strong understanding of governance and risk management of supply contracts.
In order to be successful in this role, you will have prior experience of working as a Quantity Surveyor at pre-construction stage for a social housing provider or construction company. You will have strong negotiation skills and be able to work with subcontractors and clients to reach positive commercial terms and minimise any commercial risks to the business.
You will have good technical knowledge and skills in the construction sector and a good knowledge of commonly used contracts and frameworks.
You’ll be up to date with industry knowledge, innovation and regulations.
Communication will be a strength, you’ll look to build strong relationships with key stakeholders, alongside providing clear reports that provide both the detail and assurances that are required.
Aster embraces agile working and are a flexible employer. This role is predominantly home-based, however, the post holder should expect to be in the office or on site a minimum of two days a month.
As you’ll be out and about in our operating regions, you’ll need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes. You will spend a minimum of two days per month in our offices in Devizes and Andover, so it's important that you are happy to travel.
