About the BMA

The British Medical Association (BMA) is the trade union and professional body for doctors in the UK. We represent, support and negotiate on behalf of all UK doctors and medical students.

About the role

We’re looking for an HR Assistant to join our HR team on a 12 month fixed term contract. This is a crucial time for doctors and the NHS, as we work for better pay and conditions in their profession. Would you like to be part of this vital effort?

You’ll be responsible for a range of HR administration tasks associated with the employee life cycle and HR projects. We operate an HR ticketing system, and you will be the first point of contact for all customer queries through this. Your work will involve a variety of tasks including new starter onboarding, providing payroll support and recruitment support. You’ll also get a chance to collaborate with and support the wider HR team with projects.

If you are looking to develop a career in HR and have strong organisational, communication and administration skills, this could be the role for you.

Currently this is a hybrid role with a mix of working from BMA House in Central London and from home.

To be successful as an HR Assistant you’ll have:

  • Previous experience as an HR Assistant in a similar sized organisation
  • Good IT skills, with experience of HR Systems, especially Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS)
  • Familiarity with current employment policies and legislation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • The ability to develop positive working relationships with a wide variety of customers (internal & external)
  • Excellent organisation skills with the ability to plan and prioritise workloads, and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrable customer service skills
  • Strong eye for detail and accuracy

We anticipate that interviews will take place week commencing 26th August.

Why work for us?

We offer a wide range of benefits including:

  • 30 days holiday entitlement plus bank holidays and a BMA company day
  • Double matching pension contributions up to 12% of salary
  • Additional leave entitlement for volunteering or moving house (after completion of probationary period)
  • Onsite gym and subsidised café at BMA House
  • BMA Law - discounted rates for employees requiring legal services such as will writing/conveyancing
  • Multiple flexible benefits and discounts through our employee benefits platform
  • Lots of Learning and Development/training opportunities via our internal learning hub
  • Season ticket loan (up to £10,000) after completion of probationary period
