I’ve just started working with an excellent Engineering business based in a picturesque location in the Lake District, just outside of Ulverston who are recruiting for a Head of Supply Chain.
The business are at the very cutting edge of innovation and are trusted suppliers to some of the most renowned businesses in the Aerospace & Defence sector. They are built on a long history and still remain a family business with a very strong name in the market.
The business is seeing significant investment every year in the latest and best manufacturing equipment, the best talent in the market and are constantly innovating new and exciting technology. The site is purpose build and unique with yet more investment going into a full office renovation but still maintaining the little nods to the history it is built on.
The role will manage a team of 6x direct reports across multiple areas including – Purchasing, Stores & Goods in.
Responsibilities
Procurement and Stores Team Management:
Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the Procurement and Stores team members.
Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
Conduct performance and development reviews, identify training needs, and support professional development opportunities for team members.
Supply Chain Strategy
Foster and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to enhance collaboration and ensure reliability.
Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to address potential disruptions and sole source in the supply chain.
Conduct regular performance reviews and implement improvement plans as needed.
Procurement
Develop and implement a comprehensive procurement strategy aligned with business objectives.
Source and evaluate suppliers, negotiate contracts, and establish strong vendor relationships.
Monitor market trends, pricing, and supplier performance to identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
Inventory Management
Design and execute effective inventory control policies to optimise stock levels and ensure timely availability of materials.
Implement inventory forecasting models to prevent stockouts and excess inventory.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline production schedules and minimise lead times.
Oversee the efficient receipt and inspection of incoming materials and components.
Implement quality control measures to ensure compliance with industry standards and company specifications.
Work closely with quality assurance teams to address any discrepancies or non-conformities in received goods.
Experience
Must have a strong background in leadership roles within Supply Chain/Procurement/Purchasing in a Manufacturing/Engineering setting.
Comfortable managing a large and varied spread of part numbers.
Ideally have strong skills in making improvements to ERP usage and efficiencies.
Must be a strong communicator, comfortable at all levels and capable of influencing positive change.
Package Information
Salary - £65k-£75k
4-day working week – 37.5 hours.
